3 Things Every Web Entrepreneur Needs

We generally spend time talking about software or tips for building and maintaining a website. However, if you plan to be a successful web entrepreneur, it is also important to focus on some basic necessities that you’ll need to keep your business up and running. Below, we list 3 different things that you should have, as well as some additional suggestions.

Your 3 Basic Necessities

1. A Working Computer and Possibly A Spare

If you rely on the web to make money, you need to make sure that you can access it. This means that you need to have reliable hardware.

It is also a good idea to have a backup computer. Many web professionals, for example, have both a laptop and a desktop. Combined, these machines ensure that a hardware failure won’t put you out of business.

2. Reliable Internet Connection

Similar to the above, a good internet connection enables you to connect with your visitors, readers, or customers. If you are relying on dial-up or that free wireless connection that goes in and out, consider upgrading to a DSL or cable service.

Additionally, if you regularly receive bulky downloads, or send large files, you might also thing about getting a fast connection.

3. Good and Secure Email Account

Last, but not least, it is important to have a good email account. After all, for every email lost, you could be loosing money.

If you own a website, but are unable to obtain good webmail through your webhost, consider using Google’s gmail or Yahoo mail.

Additional Considerations

There are a few other items which you should consider obtaining as well. These include:

Merchant Account

If you plan to sell things online, a merchant account is the way to go. No longer is it feasible to collect money orders or checks. Instead, you can have instant payment processing with a merchant account.

If you aren’t familiar with merchant accounts, one popular option that might work for you is PayPal.

Smart Phone

Another tool which will make you easily accessible to your clients is a Smart Phone. Consider getting one which has both email and internet browsing capabilities.

Backup Battery

Recently, after experiencing some recurring power outages, we realized how important a backup battery was. While the battery life is finite, we were able to minimize our downtime.

Emergencies can happen anytime, so consider getting a backup battery today. In terms of cost, the average battery ranges from $100 – $200 and can be used for a desktop, or as a second battery for a laptop.
