7 Website Mistakes

Websites, design principles, and technology have come a long way in the last few years. Yet, there are still many glaring errors that webmasters continue to commit.

Here is a list of a few mistakes that turn visitors off and make a website appear unprofessional.

1. Under construction notices. Under construction notices are very amateur, especially when placed on a live website. Instead, wait until your website is complete before you publish it.

2. Overuse of technology. Many webmasters are often very excited to show the breadth of their experience and may overload a website with every imaginable technology. Unfortunately, this is often overkill, resulting in a website which is not user friendly.

3. Slow loading pages. When internet connections got faster, many webmasters were excited because of the new freedom this gave them to add all sorts of media to a web page. However, with faster connection speeds has come even shorter attention spans. Be sure to optimize your website so that visitors do not have to wait.

3. Visitor counters. Visitors do not need to know that others have come before them. Additionally, the number that visitors see can make them want to leave. If it is low, then they’ll wonder if the website is worth visiting. If it is too high, they’ll wonder if the number is false. So keep counters hidden, and if you need website statistics, consider installing a hidden solution.

4. No copyright statements. While not having a copyright statement does not give someone leave to freely use, copy, and distribute your content, it is a good idea to have a notice so that users are aware that the content is protected.

6. Long sentences and lengthy pages. Many people find it hard to read long sentences and lots of content from a computer screen. So when you draft your content, include many breaks and shorten your content to make it more easily digestible by your readers.

7. No marketing plan. Many people believe that once they have a website, they will get lots of visitors flocking to their website. Unfortunately, this is not the case. In order to get traffic, you’ll need to implement a marketing plan.

If done properly, your website can be very valuable and generate more business than any physical store front. So consider our tips and start making improvements to your website today.
