More often than not, bloggers tend to blog about news, ideas, or concepts that are often talked about on other blogs. This is a BIG mistake. By writing about general or common topics, your article will have to compete with hundreds or thousands other articles on the same subject. This means that your article is not likely to be found in search engines, thus resulting in a low level of traffic. Instead, it is a better idea to focus on more specific, less-talked-about topics.

2. Reel Them In

When you show up on search engine results pages (SERPs), a listing for your website is displayed along with 9 listings for other websites. Your goal is to convince potential visitors to visit your site and ignore the others. How do you do this? Create effective titles and descriptions.

The best titles are those that are short, interesting, and contain keywords. And the best descriptions should be a short informative blurb that gives additional details about what the page has to offer. Unfortunately, your descriptions are not often displayed because search engines generally select their own snippets of text from your pages. So be sure to focus most of your energies on creating stellar titles.
