How To Get Inbound Links: Content Is King

In the last part of our series, Why Are Links Important?, we discussed the reasons why webmasters should be seeking to build the number of inbound links pointing to their website.

In this article, we’ll discuss one of the most overlooked methods for link building: content.

Make Others Want To Link To You

One of the best ways to get inbound links is to entice other webmasters to link to your website. This is done by providing something useful. Some websites, for example, feature a helpful free service such as image hosting, website screenshots, or PR checker. But most websites rely on high quality content.

What is good content?

In our article, Is Your Website Worth Visiting?, we mention a few trademarks of good content. It should be well-researched, grammatically correct, well-written, and unique. In addition, content should be fresh. Few people will link to a stale website.

Reasons you might not get links

Even with good content, there might be some reasons that webmasters may be hesitant to link to you. Two main reasons include: (1) unappealing or unprofessional design, and (2) excessive advertisements or popups.

Both of these factors can be controlled, so be sure that your website isn’t discouraging others from linking to you.

Other Reasons To Have Good Content

In addition to helping your website get inbound links, content is also very effective in generating traffic. After all, just think of the millions of people who regularly use search engines to find information! If your information is relevant and fresh, you will receive visitors to your website.

Great content can help save you money as well. Many webmasters, for example, use paid marketing campaigns (such as pay-per-click or sponsorships) to drive traffic to their websites. However, if your website does not offer something useful to visitors, there is nothing to prevent them from leaving right away. Clearly, this would be a waste of money.

When it comes down to it, good content cannot be denied. It will be highly ranked by search engines, receive a significant level of traffic, and entice others to link to it.

What’s Next?

Some webmasters don’t like to rely too heavily on content for traffic and inbound-link building because the results take some time. In the next part of our How To Get Inbound Links series, we will list several methods that you can use to get immediate results.
