I haven’t blogged much since the holidays. I don’t think I should quit but I wasn’t in the right mental space to write any articles. I actually felt guilty about it. I wrote my first new article last night and it was hard to get started.

I do think people should stop if they aren’t enjoying it – we already have to do too many things in life that we don’t enjoy doing.

@Kurt, yes its funny how things are on the net. Everyone needs current information. But there are so many quality blogs that have great posts, and they only update a couple of times a month. One blog that I like, and wish would publish more frequent updates is: http://www.skelliewag.org/

Thats a real truth lol. I always considers blogs who have not been updated for more than 2 weeks as DEAD. When I like a blog, I always bookmark it to come back again… but at time when I see that for weeks it still like what it was when i first came…. Bubye blog

I would have to agree with Wei Liang. I tried making some money at some point that didn’t work out. Either way my first priority when blogging is having fun.

@Wei Liang, yes, a lot of us do blog for the fun of it, regardless of how much (or little) money is made. Those are usually the most enjoyable blogs to read.

As for the 50% statistic, I would have thought that it would be higher. Either way, there is nothing wrong with using money as a motivation, but there should probably be some other reason for blogging as well.

I have done a few blogging coaching before and I realize some of the bloggers actually keep on blogging because the love the process of seeing their blog grow even though they are not making a single cent online.

I remember I chance upon a statistics that more than 50% of the bloggers are geared towards the goal of making money online. I am not sure how accurate the data is but this proves that many just jump into the bandwagon as a sake of experimenting. This is the group that should read this article and know when to stop blogging.

i’ll be glad! actually as i said i am happy that someone else other than me is using it. as for blogging, fun and companies i see the need for a blog but even then i have seen excellent company blogs that are more fun to read than others (for instance the meebo blog)…

@Yan, that is true. You know, its somewhat funny that this post is titled Perhaps You Shouldn’t Blog! and your blog is named Thou Shall Blog.

@Stratos, that’s another good quote. Btw, I am totally going to do a review on BloggerBuddy. I’ve completely fallen in love with it.

@Jen, yes, sometimes it is rather compulsory when using it to complement a business. But even then, it really shouldn’t be a chore. And yes, it probably is not as fun as it should be if it is costing you money and not ‘paying for itself’. So “learning the tricks” is so important.

I agree with you on one hand. On the other I think that if you are looking at blogging as a way to build your primary business it will take a little time to get into before it becomes fun, before you learn the tricks to make it not expensive, and before new ideas flow regularly. As blogging is becoming a way for a lot of marketers to brand themselves and to use attraction marketing but like any other skill it is not necessarily comfortable at first.

I’m loving this quote. I agree completely with you, especially on #3. When blogging is no longer a fun thing to do and the money is only dripping, ask yourself if it’s time to call it quit.

If you don’t enjoy what you do, everything else becomes a chore.
