WordPress 2.7 Delayed?

The WordPress community has been eagerly awaiting the release of WordPress version 2.7. After all, it features a plethora of new features and a redesigned user interface. So when sources, such as the Blog Herald, announced that the new version was slated to be released on or before December 10, we started counting down the days.

Late last night, however, there was a new addition to the WordPress.org development blog. It the latest entry, Matt announced that the final version wasn’t quite ready to be released. But he did announce the release of release candidate 2 (RC2) which can be downloaded and evaluated now. (For users who already have RC1 installed, you can upgrade using the built-in core update feature.)

So, while we are a bit disappointed, we are closer than ever to getting the final version. In his post, Matt reassures developers saying:

We feel this release is pretty much exactly what we’re going to ship as 2.7, barring any final bugs or polish tweaks that you report or we find.

So who knows, before the week is out, we might have the final version. Either way, you can still upgrade to 2.7 RC2 now. (Note: We haven’t upgraded our live blogs, but have been toying around with RC2 on a local server, and as far as we can tell, it is completely viable.)

Stay tuned for updates…
