WordPress 3.3 “Sonny” Is Here! Should You Upgrade?

On Monday, the folks at WordPress rolled out the long awaited WP version 3.3, also known as Sonny.  And with 583,334 downloads and counting, WordPress users around the globe are rushing to upgrade their websites and start using the latest and greatest WordPress. But with several bugs and issues already identified, should you upgrade your websites now or wait until the next release?

WordPress 3.3 = Great New Admin Features but Admin Pages Are SLOW

WordPress 3.3 has a lot to offer.1 The top features include major improvements to the admin interface, such as fly-out hover menus, drag-and-drop uploading, and an improved toolbar. There are also some goodies for developers, such as new and improved Editor and Help APIs, as well as added flexibility with permalink structure. See the WordPress video below.

WordPress 3.3 Is Slow

After you upgrade, you will notice one big difference between version 3.3 and version 3.2.1, SPEED. While there doesn't appear to be any impact on the frontend of the websites we've tested, admin pages load very slow in v3.3, which can make managing your website a headache.

Additionally, there are several other bugs which have been identified and are slated to be fixed in WordPress 3.3.1, which is already in development.

See the growing list of bugs in the WordPress Support Forum.

So, have you upgraded? And what are your thoughts about WordPress 3.3?

I did upgrade, looked around for a couple of minutes and then downgraded again. WP gets too bloated imho. I am working with WP since version 2.3. WP was a really light CMS way back then, loading fast as hell. I hate widgets as well and stick by handcoding. WP should stop the idea of having to come up with an upgrade every three months. Once a year should be enough.

@Al: I completely agree. The upgrades are far too frequent and WP is quickly morphing into a beast. Instead of these additional features, I think they should just focus on keeping WP lean and only enhance the plugin API. After all, many of these niceties can easily be accomplished by optional plugins.
