I upgraded and I also noticed the difference in load speed. Do you have much experience (good or bad) using a cache plugin for your sites?

I completely agree. The upgrades are far too frequent and WP is quickly morphing into a beast. Instead of these additional features, I think they should just focus on keeping WP lean and only enhance the plugin API. After all, many of these niceties can easily be accomplished by optional plugins.

I did upgrade, looked around for a couple of minutes and then downgraded again. WP gets too bloated imho. I am working with WP since version 2.3. WP was a really light CMS way back then, loading fast as hell. I hate widgets as well and stick by handcoding. WP should stop the idea of having to come up with an upgrade every three months. Once a year should be enough.
