The upgrades are far too frequent and WP is quickly morphing into a beast. Instead of these additional features, I think they should just focus on keeping WP lean and only enhance the plugin API. WP gets too bloated imho. I am working with WP since version 2.3. WP was a really light CMS way back then, loading fast as hell. I hate widgets as well and stick by handcoding. WP should stop the idea of having to come up with an upgrade every three months.
